More Than 380 Migratory Species Pass Guangxi: Safely Submitting Records of Spoon-billed Sandpiper, Nordmann’s Greenshank and Others

A Guangxi report citing the regional forestry authority on October 10 says four major migration routes carry more than 380 migratory species each year, while an integrated monitoring network covers 78 important habitats across all 14 prefecture-level cities. This guide turns citizen observations into reviewable fields and applies location controls to sensitive records such as Spoon-billed Sandpiper, Nordmann's Greenshank and Black-faced Spoonbill.

Reading 380-plus species and 78 monitored habitats

The source says four major routes cross Guangxi, with coastal mangroves, karst forests and rivers forming a network used by more than 380 migratory species each year. An integrated monitoring network covers 78 important habitats in all 14 prefecture-level cities. Both figures are regional and annual, not a single-site day total.

The featured rarities come from different places, years and methods. Spoon-billed Sandpiper, Nordmann's Greenshank, Black-faced Spoonbill, Oriental Stork, Saunders's Gull and Yellow-breasted Bunting should not be treated as one simultaneous checklist. Habitat, season and evidence govern each outing.

A reviewable record needs at least six fields

Record date and exact time, weather, generalized locality, habitat, number and count method, plus identification evidence. Keep original images and sequences; for audio, note equipment, distance and whether the bird was seen. Use probable or unidentified for moult, backlight or long range rather than promoting a rarity.

For a large flock, use zones or blocks and state possible duplication. Separate what was seen from why it was identified: Spoon-billed Sandpiper needs a clear bill and structure, Nordmann's Greenshank a combination of bill, legs, body and wing, and Black-faced Spoonbill its dark face, spoon bill and flight profile.

Useful data does not require public coordinates

Send original coordinates, files and time privately to a forestry authority, protected area or moderated platform. Public pages should show only prefecture, county, bay or reserve scale and delay sensitive records. Never forward an unverified live pin in a chat group.

Ordinary birders should not copy professional drone, infrared-camera or sensor work. Record only from public paths and hides; do not enter mangroves, flats or closed forest, and do not use playback, feeding or crowding. Report nets or injured birds to forestry, police or a rescue service.
