A bird wave is moving behaviour, not a scheduled show

Officials describe a bird wave as mass take-off and landing around dawn and dusk, often lasting 15–25 minutes. The October 12 briefing also gave a recent evening reference window. That is a monitoring update, not a performance guaranteed at the same minute every day.

Feeding, tide, weather and disturbance move the flock. The official warning is explicit: today's good viewpoint may not be tomorrow's. Check current Dongying tourism or reserve notices, then follow roads, open boundaries and staff rather than chat-group pins.

Check road access before choosing a time

The briefing says the section east of the northern Binhai Avenue–Dongba Road junction is closed for construction and cannot be used. Online guides may lag behind the site. Use only current official directions and legal parking; never turn around inside a closure, gather on a shoulder or walk an unlit road at night.

Dawn and dusk bring temperature and light changes. Carry a warm layer, reflective item and torch, but never shine a strong beam on birds. If a viewpoint is crowded, switch to an open urban wetland and accept a smaller flock. Safety and lower disturbance come before a checklist photograph.

Apply the three-kilometre drone ban exactly as issued

Officials state that drones are prohibited in the reserve and the surrounding three-kilometre habitat zone and ask visitors not to pursue or disturb flocks. Registration, suitable flying weather or a roadside launch point does not override ecological restrictions.

Egrets and waterfowl occur across Dongying wetlands, but the source gives no species-level list for this early wave, so this article assigns no scientific names. Observe from a fixed position with binoculars or a scope: no horns, feeding, flushing or live sharing of a flock's landing point.
